Make your Car Great Again!

In the unforgiving and treacherous urban terrain of Singapore, your car faces many daily threats that you may not even be aware yourself. These threats may manifest itself as harmless, innocent or even take advantage of our comfortability with the uncomfortable. Protecting your unsuspecting car and its paint might actually be harder than it seems. Or should it be? Here at Ngai Hong Spray Painting, we are committed to deal with this existential threat to your car, and to make your car great again.

What are we talking about here again?

The silent killers that plot your car's demise!

In Summary (TLDR):

  • Singapore's rising UV index and acidic rainwater are the top causes of paint fading and corrosion.

  • Bird droppings are highly acidic — clean them quickly before sun exposure bakes them into the paint permanently.

  • Road debris and flying stones cause chips; keep distance from vehicles ahead and consider Paint Protection Film.

  • Carpark door dings are common — choose corner lots and avoid parking beside vans or delivery trucks.

  • Apply liquid wax every 2–4 weeks for basic paint protection; ceramic coating (like 9H Tonyin) lasts up to 2 years and offers superior UV and scratch resistance.

  • Polish every 6–12 months to restore gloss and remove stubborn stains.

  • Prevention is the cheapest cure — shade, smart parking, and safe driving habits go a long way.

  1. Rain and Shine

Singapore's weather can be quite erratic in recent times. One moment the Sun is blazing hot and a sudden downpour at the blink of the eye. The rain and shine are your car's greatest enemies, no mistake about that.

Let's start with the Sun. The UV index is a measurement of how strong the level of solar radiation on the Earth's surface. Singapore's average UV index has been gradually increasing from 2.6 in 2023 to close to 3.0 today, with its maximum UV index hitting 11.0 very frequently over the past year. It is not only bad for your skin but also harmful to your car's paint. These harmful UV rays from the Sun can break down the pigment in paints, leaving the paint faded or discoloured.

A good car wash from rain, you'd say? Rain in Singapore is not a good thing either. Studies have shown how rainwater in Singapore has hit an acidic pH of 4.2 - 4.6 (Neutral pH 7.0). Attributing to the transportation, refineries and industrial pollution, this will accelerate corrosion and damage to paint. This is one of the reasons why rain leaves marks on your car body when rainwater does not runaway naturally.

Most of the time a good polish can lighten or remove these water stains but sun-kissed paint will require a respray of fresh paint.

  1. Birds of Paradise

Singapore is home to 390 bird species and home to a thriving crow population in recent news. Many open carparks have trees to beautify the area, but brings a pain to car owners - bird droppings! These feathered freeloaders soar through the skies with one mission: to relieve themselves at maximum inconvenience. And somehow, your freshly washed car always becomes ground zero. If not cleaned in time, plus some baking under the sun, the acidic droppings may damage the paint and leave a lasting mark to remember.

Polishing will not be able to fully remove such marks if it has penetrated deep into the top coat.

  1. Flying Debris

Our roads are constantly littered with small stones ready to pick a fight with your car. This is worse on roads that have ongoing construction. So drive slow and do not tailgate the car in front. Your best defense against wild projectiles is to keep your distance and slow down. Otherwise, applying a Paint Protection Film over the car should do the trick as well.

  1. Silent Bruises from your Neighbours

Our carparks may be seemingly innocent, but it is where majority of the bruises come from. Not sure if it is the small carpark lots or the gigantic size of Singaporeans that love to do a full swing of their doors, our cars feel the impact of their "neighbourliness". We usually recommend our friends to avoid parking in small lots, beside delivery vehicles and choose corner parking lots where possible.

Every day. Rain. Sun. Birds. Rocks. People.
number 1 causes for car paint issues

Your car doesn’t complain. It doesn’t fight back. It just… takes it all.

Fret not. We at Ngai Hong Spray Painting have several solutions to combat these battles, and come out triumphant!

  1. Create a cleaning schedule for your car. Over time, dirt, dust and debris builds up on your car and requires a good wash. For cars with dust all over, we can skip the shampoo and use a clean, wet cloth to go through. After a good wash, your job is not done yet. Apply off the shelves liquid wax every 2 weeks to a month! This step will help you on your future washes and provide a layer of protection over your car from UV and acidic droppings.

  2. Regular polishing and apply coating. Polishing helps with removing stubborn stains and dirt, as well as restore the gloss of the paint. This can be done every 6-12 months. Professional coating are chemicals that last much longer than wax, and has more protection against external. For instance, ceramic coating usually have a hardness rating that indicates the scratch resistance. The higher the number, the more resistance it has against scratches.

Check out our 9H Tonyin Ceramic Coating. Renowned for its water beading surface coating, dust and water does not stick onto the paint surface and provides ease of cleaning. Its UV resistant properties enable your paint to look bright and great for years to come! Recommend to apply once every 2 years.

  3. Avoid the source of destruction. Prevention is better than cure. We recommend customers to avoid long exposure to the Sun and rain (where possible), and park at areas that are not directly under trees as it may risk bird droppings or tree sap stains. Find carpark lots that have wider space to reduce the risk of door opening dinks by others; try to avoid parking beside vans and delivery trucks where possible. On the road, always be on a look out for road debris that may risk flying onto your car or damaging your undercarriage. Protecting your car paint begins with correct knowledge and a conscious effort.

Your car silently endures Singapore's harsh sun, acidic rain, bird droppings, road debris, and careless neighbours every single day. The damage is slow, cumulative, and often invisible. Until it isn't and a visit to your car spray painting workshop is inevitable. With a consistent care routine, the right paint protection products, and smarter parking and driving habits, you can significantly extend the life and appearance of your car's paint. At Ngai Hong Spray Painting, we're here for every stage of that journey — from a simple polish to a full ceramic coating — so your car always looks as good as the day you drove it home.

Car paint protection in Singapore should not be such a difficult task, since now you know the keys to Make your Car Great Again!
